December 20, 2010

In six days, the day after Christmas, we'll celebrate the one year anniversary of our adoption of Daisy, the poodle mix. While we don't have pics to share yet, as soon as I find the digital card reader to transfer photos to my computer the news will be posted here.

Also, I've changed the old news page to pages -- broke up the one, very long page by the year.

Merry Christmas, Happy Boxing Day and Happy Kwanzaa!

August 25, 2010

On Monday, August 23, Freddy was found dead in his favorite snoozing spot on top of the sofa back in the living room. We have no idea what caused his death. We will miss him so much, especially his buddy, Smokey.

Great news! Over the weekend beagles and primates used in a lab, which was shut down in April due to bankruptcy, were rescued from the building they were housed in. Read more at this care2 blog and find out how you can help one of the organizations involved in the rescue by donating $25 to name one of the dogs.

April 23, 2010

Sad news. Janet's parents' 19 year old cat, Mimi, who had cancer, was put to rest on Monday, April 12.

Updated our links page with some websites or web pages that have information on plants and foods that are toxic to our pets. Click on the Animal Healthcare quick link at the top of the Links page.

This information is important to know because many of us do not realize what these plants and foods are that could cause illness or even death to our pets. You cannot assume, for example, that just because humans can eat onions so can our dogs. No!

So, take a look at the lists and print out one of them to tack on your fridge or take with you when you go shopping for plants this spring to put in your house or garden. You may also want to look in your yard and remove any plants that are on the list.

Belated happy new year!

I last wrote about the news that shelters in the state of California held a glut of Chihuahua dogs. Since the story broke in news on TV and print last month, at least two rescue groups/ shelters have taken in the dogs in Colorado and New York.

That is sooo good to hear. While I'm not particularly a big fan of Chihuahuas -- they're pretty cute though -- it's nice to see that those teacup dogs will be able to find new, good homes.
